Nancy Carey
PROFILE
Nancy has been involved as a coach, official and administrator with field hockey in Richmond for over 35 years. She focused on skill development, team cohesion and personal confidence. Her dedication and passion to the sport of field hockey has impacted many generations of young Richmond females.
Richmond Roots Nancy has called Richmond home since she was hired as a teacher by the Richmond School District in 1975. She was instrumental in developing field hockey in the school district and at the community level.
Did You Know Many girls who have played with Richmond Field Hockey have gone on to play at Canadian and American universities.
Barriers Overcome For the first 15 years, most of the club's league games were on the road due to the lack of suitable fields. Nancy and other volunteers spent countless hours mowing and lining the fields.
MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS
Recognition Nancy has been recognized with numerous awards throughout her involvement with field hockey. She has won the Sport BC Presidents Award along with the Builder Award from the Richmond Sports Awards. The Richmond Field Hockey Club has established an annual scholarship honoring Nancy and her husband Lance's contribution to the sport.

Contribution to Richmond Sport Introduced field hockey to Richmond schools in 1975; started the first Richmond girl’s field hockey team in 1984. By the mid-1990's, the club had grown to 15 teams with over 200 girls. Initial convenor of the RSSAA Field Hockey in 1996.
