PROFILE

Ian was an avid athlete who played high school football (Lord Byng), on the UBC football team and the first div. rugby team at UBC. Played two football seasons in one year when high school football changed their season from spring to fall. Ian coached and officiated football for over 30 years alongside fellow inductee Doug Staveley.

Richmond Roots Ian moved to Richmond in the 1960’s after accepting a job with the Richmond School District where he worked for 32 years, coaching at Steveston Secondary for 28 years.

Did You Know Was the head referee in the first BC High School Football Championships in 1966 at Capilano Stadium (Nat Bailey).

Barriers Overcome Ian has had six knee operations and two neck surgeries throughout his playing and coaching career.

MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS

Recognition Was awarded the Builder Awards by BC Amateur Football Association in 1987 and was inducted into BC Football Hall of Fame as a Builder in 2013. Honourary life member of the BC Football Officials Association, lifetime member of the BC Senior Secondary Football Association and in 1993 was presented the Richmond School District Bill Goodman Award.

Championship Ian won numerous Vancouver & District Championships and his team competed in the BC Boys AAA High School Football Championships Finals three times Won the Jim Jordan Trophy 16 times vs. crosstown rival Richmond High Colts.
