PROFILE

At the age of 75 and 80, Gwen broke the Marathon World Record. At 75 she also broke the Half Marathon World Record and the 10km Canadian Record. She has run 18 marathons (from 2001 to 2012), each time qualifying for the Boston Marathon.

Richmond Roots Richmond resident since 1966 and Kajaks athlete since 2001. Gwen has also volunteered her time at various events throughout the City of Richmond, including the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Did You Know Gwen started running at the age of 60. She is one of the founding member of the Richmond "Foreveryoung" club for seniors.

Barriers Overcome Gwen has been a cancer survivor for the last 22 years. Also overcame a serious ankle injury at the age of 82 and is still running strong.

MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS

Recognition Gwen was named the BC Master Athlete of the Year in both 2010 and 2012. She has also received the Richmond Kajaks Master Athlete of the Year award every year since 2009.

Championship Gwen competed in the 2009 B.C. Senior Games in Richmond, winning the gold medal in the 3000m, and set a new Canadian record in the 5000m and 10k. She won 5 gold medals at the 2016 Senior Games.
