PROFILE

Bill had a 43 year coaching career in both community and school sports. He served on the BC High School Football Board of Directors for 20 years, three as President from 2007–2010. Bill was fortunate enough to coach football for many years alongside his brother Bruce.

Richmond Roots Bill grew up in Richmond where he played hockey, football and baseball, winning a Western Canadian Little League Championship in 1970. Bill played football for Matt Phillips at Cambie Jr High and for Archie Skemp at Richmond High.

Did You Know Bill’s father, John, was one of the founders of the Richmond Minor Football Association.

Barriers Overcome With numbers in football declining in the 2000s, Bill and his brother Bruce kept high school football alive in Richmond, with Hugh Boyd being the only participating program from 2003 until their coaching time ended in 2017.
