PROFILE

Through his three-plus decades as a coach, Albert impacted the lives of many young athletes through his tireless passion for sport. Albert could be found most days in the Burnett gymnasium coaching individuals and various teams. Upon retiring, he competed at the BC 55 Plus Games and won nine medals.

Richmond Roots In 1949, Albert’s family returned to Richmond after being interned during the war. Albert grew up in Richmond and graduated from Steveston High School in 1962. He worked for 33 years teaching and coaching at Burnett Secondary School and raised his family in Richmond.

Did You Know Along with coaching, Albert competed in a variety of sports including badminton and dragon boating racing.

Barriers Overcome Albert began teaching and coaching at Burnett while the school was still under construction and the gymnasium was yet to be built, causing many teams to be forced to practice outdoors.

MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS

Recognition Students always appreciated that Albert was generous with his time in the gym and out on the sports field. Albert won BC Sports Coach of the Year in 2002 and was recognized by the Richmond School District for his 30-plus years of service to Richmond School Sports.

Championship Albert won multiple championships throughout his coaching career in football, badminton, and baseball. His greatest success was with the sport of badminton, with nine Vancouver and District Championships and several provincial medals.

Career Stats
