Kim Young
PROFILE
Kim has had an extensive career as an educator and school administrator. His skill to lead and communicate has seen his efforts take athletes from the grassroots to the Olympic level. Kim has been deeply and passionately involved in Track and Field Development for over 45 years.
Richmond Roots During his 34 years as an educator he spent 23 years in Richmond as a teacher, Vice-Principal, Principal and Director of Instruction. Kim got involved with Kajaks in the 1960’s because he was such an excellent school Coach and recruiter of elementary school athletes.
Did You Know In 1983 as head Coach of the Canadian National Team, he led one of the first teams to compete in East Germany.
Barriers Overcome The inevitable collision of time allocation between family, career and volunteer efforts.
MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS
Recognition Kim has been an international, national and provincial coach leading to his selection as a two time Canadian National Team Coach for the Pan-Am Games. In 2008 Kim was inducted in to the BC Athletics Hall of Fame.

Contribution to Richmond Sport Kim was an integral part of the early years of the Kajaks, where he has held many positions, ranging from President to meet director, to running coach. He was a co-founder of the first BC Elementary Track and Field Championships.
