Dolphin Classic
PROFILE
Dolphin Classic is considered by some to be a reunion of friends and competitors wrapped in a basketball tournament. The tournament helped to foster a spirit of community in Richmond.
Richmond Roots In 1986, four graduates from Steveston High had the idea to organize a cross town community basketball tournament at Dolphin Park. The tournament provided an opportunity for rivals to compete outside of the traditional school system. Dolphin Parks popularity for basketball made it ideal outdoor summer venue.
Did You Know The tournament has attracted such notable spectators as Steve Nash.
Barriers Overcome The size, location and design of the park were never intend to host a multiday tournament that grew to attract upwards of 1,000 people per day. The tournament grew to such a scale it has had to move to alternate locations.
MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS
Recognition As a result of the tournaments success, aspiring basketball would travel across Richmond to wait their turn at playing on the court at Dolphin Park. Dolphin Park has become synonymous with basketball in Richmond.

Championship From modest beginnings this tournament has becomes one of the premiere outdoor basketball events in BC. This signature community event attracts players who strive for “Dolphin Park” basketball bragging rights.

Contribution to Richmond Sport The Dolphin Park Class inspired countless Richmond Youth to peruse their passion for the sport of basketball. The tournament has grown to include men’s, women’s, youth, slam dunk and a 3-point competition.
